A cosplay prop I made for a client. The brief was to create a viscous-looking, parasitic tongue that would be suitable to wear inside the mouth. I made three pieces in total.
First, I made a plaster core to sculpt onto, and sculpted the piece using hard Chavant, making the teeth separately out of Super Sculpey, then made a 2 part slush mould out of plaster. It took several attempts to find the best method for creating the latex pieces themselves, which turned out to be layering the latex on both halves until reaching a good thickness, then joining the halves together and using the pour in/ pour out method to join the two pieces together.
Ones I had the latex pieces, which required some seaming, I painted base coats to make sure that the pigments of the paint would not be affected by the latex turning colour over time, then applied very thin washes of colour, using acrylic paints with a mixture of Proz-aide prosthetic adhesive glue, Liquitex medium gloss & varnish and acrylic airbrush mixing medium for thinning, in various combinations and amounts for the desired effects. I used red, and white flocking to create finer flecks of colour. To insert the teeth, I first stuck them into the sockets using the latex itself, then layer on many coats of the medium gloss & varnish, testing as I went along to make sure they were secure and could be inserted into the mouth without presenting a choking hazard.
These pieces were very time consuming to make, but thoroughly enjoyable ^^ I am very pleased with the finish of the pieces, I feel they look very organic, considering they are made of cheap latex and not silicone. I am considering making a whole batch of these to sell, so if anybody is interested in purchasing one please feel free to message me. I also take commissions, when I've got enough time to do these things outside of my normal job!
Thanks for looking ^.^
